Introduction to Dragonary
Dragonary is an exhilarating tactical RPG battle game that offers players a thrilling experience. With Dragonary, gamers can step into a world where mighty Dragon NFTs, each possessing unique levels of rarity and power, engage in epic clashes to establish dominance. Players can test their skill in strategic combat, collect dragons or breed them to earn the coveted in-game currency, Coinary Token ($CYT).
When and how did you enter the blockchain space?
The Coinary team entered the blockchain space around 2016. I got involved through cryptocurrency mining, recognizing the potential of blockchain technology and the future of currencies. Another team member, Yohan, entered the space through the development and programming of blockchain-related code.
What was the inspiration for Dragonary?
The inspiration for Dragonary came from our team’s passion for game development and our desire to incorporate the benefits of blockchain technology. We are all gamers and have a particular love for role-playing games, which is why we decided to focus on creating a game in that genre. The name Dragonary was derived from our fascination with dragons, as they are considered the most captivating and mythical creatures in existence.
How many people are on the team? How did the team come about and grow?
Currently, we have around 40 people actively working on the Dragonary project. Initially, our team consisted of only six members. The first collaboration occurred when Eduardo, Yohan, and I joined forces to work on the CoinaryTV YouTube channel. We initially started working on a pilot program for a third party, but when the partnership didn’t work out, we decided to continue with the channel project independently.
What were some of the early challenges in developing Dragonary and how did you overcome them?
One of the major challenges we encountered was the unexpected impact of the game. We initially anticipated around 10,000 players, but within hours, we reached half a million. This posed significant technical and implementation challenges for us. Both the game’s economy and the overall infrastructure were not prepared for such a large influx of users, and we were caught off guard. As a result, we had to quickly adapt and make numerous adjustments and improvements within a short period of time.
Why did you decide to build on Web3?
Being deeply involved in the world of blockchain development, it was clear to us that Dragonary should be based on Web3. We recognized the numerous benefits and innovations that Web3 offers, not only for players but also for game developers in the long run. By leveraging the power of Web3 technologies, we aimed to provide a more immersive and decentralized gaming experience, where players have true ownership and control over their in-game assets and interactions.
In no more than 3 sentences, how would you explain Web3 gaming to somebody working in Web2?
Web3 gaming is a revolutionary concept that takes gaming beyond the limitations of traditional Web2. It enables players to truly own and control their in-game assets through blockchain technology, providing transparency, security, and interoperability. It allows for seamless integration of virtual worlds, cross-game asset exchanges, and decentralized economies, creating a more immersive and player-centric gaming experience compared to the centralized nature of Web 2 gaming.
Talk a bit about your NFT collection. Tell us, what makes it unique?
What makes our NFT collection unique and something I’m proud of is the extensive time and effort dedicated to the design and illustration of each NFT. Nothing is created randomly or generated by artificial intelligence. We haven’t purchased or downloaded assets or collections from external sources, and every aspect of our NFTs is our own intellectual property. Additionally, each NFT within our collection serves a purpose, including the islands, and we have exciting plans in the pipeline to unveil something truly impressive for the owners of those islands.
If you could invite a living or dead person to play a Web3 game with you, who would it be and why?
I would invite Hyo Jung Shin, the creator of the game Lineage 2, to play a Web3 game with me. Lineage 2 is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) that has made a significant impact in the gaming industry. Given the transformative potential of integrating blockchain technology and NFTs into games, it would be fascinating to explore how we could collectively change the gaming landscape and revolutionize the way we interact with and own digital assets in games.
What is your favorite game of all time and why?
It’s definitely Age of Empires 2, an incredible game with a rich history and captivating gameplay. It offers a perfect blend of historical context, engaging campaigns, a competitive multiplayer scene, and the ability to create unique gaming experiences through mods. The game’s emphasis on resource management, teamwork, and the need to adapt and improvise in every match or campaign make it a timeless favorite among strategy game enthusiasts. The combination of these elements contributes to an immersive and fulfilling gaming experience
Why did you choose to build on Myria’s L2 scaling solution?
Working with Myria’s L2 scaling solution is a crucial solution for us. It allows us to benefit from the security and robustness of the Ethereum blockchain while simultaneously enjoying the speed and capacity to mint NFTs in real time and without fees. This addresses one of the significant challenges when interacting with Web3 technology, as it eliminates the need for a centralized server to handle all transactions.
