GAME ON: Web3 Insights From Fares Abu-Taleb at Haven’s Compass Now Partnered With Myria
Haven’s Compass is a fast-paced, tactical, first-person shooter set in a futuristic setting. Built specifically for PC, the game will test player skill as gamers attempt to find their own haven. Within Haven’s Compass, players will have a wide arsenal of weapons to choose from as well as different abilities that will allow them to customize their experience even further.
We had the chance to sit down and talk to Haven’s Compass founder & CEO, Fares Abu-Taleb. He shared his thoughts about the game, Myria, and the wider world of Web3.
Why did you choose to build on Myria’s L2 scaling solution?
As a game development studio, it is important to us to choose a fitting technology that is scalable and secure to be the backbone of Haven’s Compass. Myria provides an easy-to-use solution, as well as a straightforward way to launch our game assets from deployment to the marketplace. This allows us to focus on what we do best, which is game development.
What plans do you have with Myria in the future?
Our Compass Ecosystem Games will all launch using Myria L2 Solutions, we have a 5-year roadmap ahead of us that will keep this ecosystem booming and moving. I believe that Myria will certainly be one of if not the top ecosystems for gaming with numerous great partners and games being built on it and we want Havens Compass to be there!
Why did you enter the blockchain space? What excites you about it?
I like delving into unknown territories and technologies. I was too young for the internet boom but now we are joining the revolution and changes in several industries and gaming is one of them.
What was the inspiration for your project?
Most of our Team background is people moving to new countries to find success and integrate into new societies and now with the advancement of societies we created Haven’s Compass where the player is looking for their Haven in a world where there are so few of them. We used our struggles and experiences to create a combat game that just shows how hard it is to reach your destination when you come from a disadvantaged area or background.
What are the unique elements of your project?
With Haven’s Compass, we aim to deliver a polished first-person shooter experience. Tactical gameplay is at the core of our game with player skill reigning supreme. We want to allow players to pick the arsenal that best fits their playstyle. This means a wide range of weapons and corresponding attachments that change the way they function. The player character will also play a key role with different heroes possessing different abilities, adding an extra layer of strategy and utility to the game.
Last but not least we want to empower players with true ownership of the in-game assets they’re using. We achieve this by utilizing blockchain technology and non-fungible tokens as well as a decentralized marketplace where said assets can be freely traded. Haven’s Compass will be just the first game. We have planned for an entire ecosystem where digital assets will be cross-compatible.
When is Haven’s Compass launching?
We’re planning an official release for 2025 but there’s already a playable version of the game live on the Epic Games store. Feel free to check it out and share your feedback, it’s important to us!
Looking at the crypto and gaming industry today, if you could go back in time, what advice would you give to yourself?
Don’t be afraid of trying things out even if the first reaction is that it’s crap. You can always change your product and make it successful but you can never go back in time!
If you could invite a living or dead person to play a Web3 game with you, who would it be and why?
The people that I used to play with when I was young, I think this would be something we would have loved to play and earn some pocket money on the side while doing it!
What is your favorite game of all time?
I love Final Fantasy 8 and it is my all-time favorite game, but Metal Gear Solid and other shooter games are also things I used to play in my free time.
