Joining forces — Myria and Meta Nomads

When it comes to questioning the future transition from Web2 to Web3, Meta Nomads is a new game screaming: ‘resistance is futile.’

Tired of seeing poor gaming experiences being built on the blockchain, investment banker of 20 years, fintech aficionado, and self-confessed hardcore gamer, Ben Leibeck, wanted to create something that will compete with what the best AAA gaming studios have to offer.

‘There are Web2 games developed on Unreal Engine that deliver a truly engaging three-dimensional experience seasoned players love,’ says Ben, ‘then there are Web3 games that provide opportunities to make money but fail to deliver that immersive, edge-of-the-seat experience.

‘Meta Nomads was an idea I had to build a Battle Royale-style game using blockchain technology that fills the gaps in other games, from Fortnight to PUBG and even Call of Duty.’

About Meta Nomads

Created using Unreal Engine 5, Meta Nomads is a post-apocalyptic battle racing game set on Mars. Featuring plenty of high-octane, 3D, third-person shooter play and Hoverboard racing, the aim of the game is for players to fight their way through derelict cities (‘colonies’) within maps before moving onto new areas for more visual treats, killing and leveling up along the way.

Players can fight each other for loot in multiple cities where last-player-standing death matches unravel over ten to fifteen minutes. Jaw-dropping ambient backdrops include old ports, deserted factory warehouses, and empty high-rise buildings, all crafted by a highly experienced team of Unreal Engine environment artists.

Advantages of Web3

Because MetaNomads is built on the blockchain, players benefit from full ownership of their digital assets as NFTs.

Says Ben, ‘There is an intrinsic value added because there will be a marketplace where players can buy, sell and use items even while playing the game. Not only that, but they can also cash their assets in for our proprietary $NMD token which, after the IDO, can be exchanged for other cryptos or converted into fiat currencies to spend in the real world.

‘Currently, there are millions of people spending hundreds and thousands of dollars on skins and weapons in Web 2 console games. But they’ve got nothing to show for their gaming beyond the pleasure of playing. But in Meta Nomads, players can enter a blockchain-based marketplace where they can buy and sell perpetually ownable digital assets that have real value. It really ups the stakes.’

Meta Nomads partners with Myria

To achieve this essential differentiation between this Web2 and Web3 experience, Meta Nomads needed the ideal Layer 2 solution, and so joined forces with Myria.

‘Meta Nomads has a vast array of NFTs from hoverboards and protective armor to sci-fi helmets, skins, outfits, Mars domes, and land,’ says Ben. ‘Our development team needed a solid, secure, and reliable blockchain upon which to start building those collections for release into MetaNomad’s marketplace. We looked around at a number of different options and, in the end, decided that Myria had exactly what we needed and was, therefore, the right partner for us.’

He adds, ‘Because Myria is a new company growing fast they understand the needs of small teams with big ambitions. We liked their personable approach, the time they took to understand what we want to achieve, and the support they continue to give. And, when it comes to the tech, their Layer 2 solution is ideal for a fast-growing project like Meta Nomads.’

Ethereum inefficiencies solved with Myria’s L2

Myria’s L2 resolves many thorny issues for game developers and studios already seeing the immense potential in blockchain technology. Namely, these are speed, scalability, security, and cost.

By building its L2 on Ethereum, and through its ongoing partnership with StarkWare using StarkEx, Myria achieves a computational throughput 600 times faster than Ethereum’s L1.

At 9,000 transactions a second, and with zero gas fees, game developers and NFT collection creators can take comfort that the tech won’t get in the way of the user experience.

This frictionless solution is the real game-changer that makes the migration from Web2 to Web3 increasingly feasible. And although it may take some time for gamers to cotton on and for projects like Meta Nomads to bridge the gap, the burning question for players will end up being: do you want to spend money playing your favorite game, or make money doing it?

If you’ve got a game that you want to develop on the blockchain, why not take advantage of Myria’s fast, secure, stable, and scalable L2 with zero gas fees? Reach out to the team today.
