Welcome to our finding focus series. Each month we will focus on a topic to help us be more fulfilled, happier and grateful.

motivation

/məʊtɪˈveɪʃ(ə)n/
Learn to pronounce

noun

  1. a reason or reasons for acting or behaving in a particular way.
“escape can be a strong motivation for travel”

As we start 2021 in a similar way we finished 2020, many of us are finding it hard to stay motivated. Some focus at Livitay definitely feels like we are, at some points, lacking “reasons for behaving in a particular way.

So we wanted to focus on how we can stay motivated.

Here is what we are doing to stay motivated.

Perspective

We should gain perspective personally and in a business context. Many people are sacking off the idea of news resolutions and while I understand that it is an over-commercialised concept, we do believe there is value in setting a bigger picture. Personally, try to understand what your “why” is for the year. What kind of individuals do you want to be rather than how frequently you want to exercise. As a business, we went through what we want to achieve this year and how we are going to get there. This helps everyone see the big picture, the north start of what we are working towards. So when, inevitably, our heads enter the sand we can gain perspective by reminding ourselves of what we are working towards.

Gratitude

Remembering to be grateful is our next focus. When life gets hard, especially in lockdown we can enter a downwards spiral of focus on what is contributing to this hardship or tough period of our life. It might sound counterintuitive, but to help us stay motivated we might just need to ground ourselves in what we have already. By remembering how much we have to but grateful for, we can remove ourselves from the downward spiral and refocus on working towards our goals.

SGN

Also known as some good news. That are things out there that will make you smile and restore your faith in humanity. I personally get mine from Radio 1 but there are loads out there. Stories of ordinary humans, doing extraordinary things. I don’t know about you, but when I saw Sir Tom raise £30 million, or see our nurses vaccinate 1000s of people a day or maybe hearing the story of Taylor being cured of a brain tumour and ringing the bell, I felt a sudden urge to keep moving forward.

Keep going,

Jack
