Would You Get The HIV Vaccine?

Approximately two weeks ago, it was reported that Moderna is beginning clinical trials of the mRNA HIV vaccine.

The vaccine was crafted after the method used to create the COVID-19 vaccine.

While there are no updates as of yet, I’m curious to know: would any of you get vaccinated against HIV?

HIV is a virus that disproportionately affects minorities, especially Black MSM.

For context: We have to refer to this population as “MSM” because not all men who have sex with men identify as homosexual or bisexual. There are men who have sex with men that still identify as heterosexual.

If you check the transmission rates per reports from the CDC, you will notice that the riskiest behavior, excluding intravenous penetration (blood transfusions, injection drug use, etc.), is receptive anal intercourse.

The best intervention measures to date are abstinence, celibacy, committed condom use, and preventative medications such as PrEP and PEP.

With a possible vaccine on the horizon, there could be another added barrier for at-risk populations or for those who want to take precautions against infection.

All things considered, if Moderna succeeds in its clinal trials, would you get the vaccine?
