Since we know that the skin is our largest organ, our attention should also be as broad as possible in order to comprehensively take care of it. When our skin is healthy, it provides us with round-the-clock care against barriers and external factors. However, if the skin’s health is in crisis or is not functioning well, this protective barrier deteriorates and weakens.

Be good for your skin

Having nice skin takes more than just using the right or very often expensive products. Sometimes what we can do without any costs and with little effort is to focus on natural processes and activities that naturally support the functioning of our skin. These are all activities that you can do at home and in your daily routine without using cosmetics or chemicals. If you have skin issues that can’t be managed with at-home remedies and lifestyle changes, you may wish to seek professional treatments. Of course, it happens that these home remedies are insufficient for skin that is demanding or requires treatment. Then it is recommended to find an appropriate and professional specialist. In this article, I will present natural methods that are combined with a healthy lifestyle and that can help us save money and time spent on care.

How to take care of your skin

  1. Diet. What you eat is as important. Your diet could improve your skin health from the inside out. It is worth paying attention to what products we consume as part of our diet.Make sure your meals are rich in antioxidants. Foods with vitamins and antioxidants are good for your body and skin.

Here are some foods that have been acknowledged by research as being skin-healthy.

  • berries
  • avocado
  • broccoli
  • oranges
  • fishes
  • or nuts

Antioxidants prevent aging processes and improve the quality of collagen and elastin fibers. They have anti-inflammatory properties and help fight acne. What they do is also protect skin against cancer, sun damage, and age spots. Healthy fats in avocado, fish, nuts, and seeds also contain Vitamin E. Thanks to vitamine E your skin is hydrated and looks youthful. Vitamin C that we can find in oranges, kiwi or strawberries can brighten your skin and give it a healthy glow. In many cases, it can also lessen blemishes.

2. Massage. You can give yourself a facial massage in the comfort of your home. As part of a cleansing or nourishing facial massage is an essential treatment that will make a positive difference and generate huge benefits to your skin almost immediately. How? Massage involves stimulating pressure points on the face, neck, and shoulders increasing oxygen flow that will awaken the skin. Another benefit is that facial massage speeds up your circulation, allowing for skin to heal and reducing swelling and puffiness. It helps especially with releasing some tension in your face muscles that are caused by daily stress. Thanks to this, by stimulating lymphatic drainage, facial massage moves toxins out of cells, resulting in brighter, youthful-looking skin. You can use lotions, oils, or cleansing balms with your facial massages. Now it is very popular to use face roller or gua sha tools as well.

3. Natural peelings. As we know, the skin has multiple layers. The outermost layer called the epidermis gets direct contact with irritants and injuries that cause cellular damage. On the surface we see accumulated dead and damaged skin cells, waiting to be replaced by new cells that rise from underneath. Peeling promotes collagen synthesis supporting skin regeneration and improves elasticity and provides proper hydration to banish dryness. Instead of choosing chemical peelings you can use simple products that you can find in your kitchen. What you have to do is to combine oil and salt or sugar in a small bowl. Then, pick the fruit or vegetable and add it in. Massage your scrub onto a slightly wet face for a couple of minutes, then clean it off using warm water.

4. Water. Water is the basis of our existence. It is crucial not only to life, but also to keep our skin hydrated and elastic. The daily amount of water we should drink is 6–8 glasses a day. But water should also be present in our other daily activities. When Skin is moisturized, it keeps the top layer of skin cells hydrated and sealed in moisture. When taking care of your skin, remember to use warm, not hot, water. be aware that excessive washing can strip away the oily layer of the skin and make it even dryer. Minimize the use of harsh and chemical soaps. Try to stay away from abrasive scrub brushes or bath sponges that can damage the skin’s surface and make it dry. Remember that alcohol and an unhealthy diet also cause dehydration, which not only causes you to feel tired and weak, but also worsens the condition of your skin.

5. Be consistent. The final tip is to be consistent. If you really want to improve elasticity and boost your skin, a consistent skincare routine is vital. Taking care of the condition of the skin not only of the face but also of the body is not a one-time and short process. It is worth controlling your diet, taking care of your hydration level, using good quality cosmetics and, most importantly, doing it not only occasionally but actually making it part of your routine. Taking care of what we feed our body, how we fight stress and the quality of our sleep are key elements in keeping our skin in good condition
