So, you have invested in the right products for your skincare. Now what?

Sometime the hardest part of skincare is not finding the right products for yourself, but actually taking the time to carry out your routine. It sounds obvious, but for many it becomes an issue- you have all the tools under your nose at your disposal, yet day after day, you forget or are too tired by the time you get back home after a long day… The products go unused, and before you know it, they become forgotten on your bathroom counter for weeks.

To avoid this from happening, there are a couple of things we can do to make this easier for ourselves:

1. Make it enjoyable

Taking the time to make that moment of skincare, one in which you take some time for yourself and enjoy the process, is a key way to keep the routine maintaining consistent. By creating a relaxing and pleasurable atmosphere, such as playing soothing music, lighting a scented candle, or using products with delightful textures and fragrances, you can make the experience something to look forward to rather than a chore. This positive association helps embed the routine into your daily life, making it easier to stick to. When skincare becomes a moment of self-care and relaxation, you’re more likely to remain committed, ensuring you reap the long-term benefits of a consistent regimen.

2. Make it become a Habit

To make a skincare routine become a habit, consistency and integration into your daily schedule are key. Start by performing your routine at the same time each day, such as right after brushing your teeth in the morning and evening. Use visual cues, like placing your products on the bathroom counter, to remind you. Keep the routine simple and manageable, focusing on essential steps to avoid feeling overwhelmed. Reward yourself for sticking to your routine, which reinforces positive behaviour.

3. Be Strategic

To maintain a consistent skincare routine, strategically place your products where you will see them regularly. Keep your cleanser, moisturizer, and sunscreen on the bathroom counter next to your toothbrush, ensuring they are part of your morning and evening rituals. Store your night-time treatments on your bedside table as a reminder before sleep. For additional products, consider a designated skincare shelf or organizer in a visible spot. This visibility serves as a constant reminder, making it less likely to forget your routine. By incorporating these visual cues, you create an environment that supports and reinforces your daily skincare habits.

4. Track Your Results

You might conisder using a skincare tracker or journal. Documenting your daily regimen and the products you use can help you stay accountable and monitor progress. Use a calendar or a dedicated app to set reminders for each step of your routine, ensuring you don’t miss any crucial application. Reflect on your skin’s changes and reactions to different products, adjusting your routine as needed. This proactive approach not only keeps you consistent but also allows you to understand what works best for your skin, leading to more effective and satisfying results.
