Multitasking or putting masks on the skin of the face has become a gesture that invades social networks. And lately, no one can resist putting them on the skin of the face. This beauty ritual has multiple benefits for skin and general well-being that you may not yet know about.

However, is it dangerous to abuse face masks? Without a method of use and knowing how many times you can put them on and how to use them, they can turn against your skin. Let us explain everything there is to know about masks and give you the keys to their use.

What is a facial mask?

A facial mask consists of a layer of cosmetic product that is applied either on the whole face or part of it. Facial masks offer a plus compared to daily moisturizers: hydration, cleansing, radiance, and specific properties, such as anti-aging or corrective effects. In addition, the masks offer a temporary treatment factor, where the results are instantaneous after application.

It is usually used for about 10 to 15 minutes to take care of the facial skin and relax. Now, the use of the mask on the face is recommended once or twice a week. Also, face masks are perfect for looking good when you have an event. There are also some masks whose effects are immediate and prepare the skin for important events.

The benefits of using face masks

Thinking that you should not use face masks because you are young is a mistake since they help prevent aging. Some of the advantages of using face masks are:

  • Face masks deeply cleanse the skin thanks to their detox effect, which absorbs impurities and excess oil.
  • They also clean the pores for cleaner skin and a radiant tone.
  • Another benefit of face masks is to help increase hydration and prevent water loss in the skin.
  • They have an illuminating and anti-aging effect for a radiant, glowing face. They are perfect for mature skin with signs of fatigue or stress.
  • Anti-aging masks achieve youthful skin and redensify wrinkles, making them less visible.

When and how to use face masks

If you want to introduce face masks into your morning or evening routine (most recommended) you need to know where to include them and what to use before and after. Here are the steps to follow:

Masks should be applied on clean, dry skin and preferably after a small peeling, which improves their effectiveness by eliminating dead skin cells.

  1. First, you need to do a deep facial cleansing before applying the mask, using a cleansing gel.
  2. Then, apply a facial toner to cleanse and purify the face.
  3. Now it is time to apply the facial mask, either all over the face or in the area of your choice. Leave it on for the time indicated on the product, it can be 10 minutes or even overnight (if the mask says so) and then rinse with water.
  4. The last thing to do is to moisturize your face with serum, eye contour, or moisturizer.

Although you can use it at any time of the day you want, it is always advisable to apply it at night or after a long day of sun exposure.

Types of facial masks

There are many types of facial masks by format, texture, or ingredients. The classic ones are made of mud or cream. However, there are other types, such as veil masks, which are removed without water.

Regular use of face masks can help regulate sagging skin. Some masks also help improve collagen production and result in firm, fresh, and youthful skin. Some types are:

  • Moisturizers

Recommended for people with dry or very dry skin, as their ingredients usually include shea oil or chamomile extract.

  • Purifying

They bring light and intensify the weekly cleansing of the skin. They also eliminate impurities and control the appearance of pimples.

  • Soothing

  • Anti-aging masks
