The seeds of rural entrepreneurship date back to the most flourishing and important business industry that is agriculture.

The roots of this flourished industry stand as ‘bachat gat’ and the small scale ‘pickle and papad’ production in villages.

‘Bachat gat’ is a small organization run by a group of women of a particular area. They come together and make local household things like pickles, papads, spices, razais in large numbers. They are also involved in production of sanitary pads which contribute to health care in villages.

Poultry, goat farming, milk industry, plant nurseries has considerable importance and can be categorized under rural entrepreneurship.

Villages do not lack manpower and land for cultivation and small scale industries.

The small scale industries are a big enterprise in rural areas.

Production of spices and herbs have emerged as a major business startup for rural houses since Indian spices have crossed the overseas and sprinkled their magic in foreign countries too.

The developing entrepreneurship in rural areas is agriculture. Cultivation of different products according to the crops grown is now a days a growing industry. For example, cultivation of chillis, cardamom, ginger, cinnamon have build the pillars of raw material for spice industry.

Introduction of recent technologies that make farming easy and profitable are the steps of success in rural entrepreneurship. Preserving natural strains and genes of vegetable, fruits and crops is looked upon importantly. Rahibai popere, a women from rural area who preserved thousands of seeds of originals strains of vegetables and crops and used them for cultivating better quality of food products, is an amazing inspiration to the youth of farmers. She conserves the indigenous plants and seeds. She is known as the seed mother. She was also awarded with Nari shakti puraskar in 2019 and Padmashree in 2020 for this innovative cause.

Walking on the same path, farming industries have introduced organic vegetables and fruits cultivation means with natural methods for increasing the fertility of soil.

Agriculture industry has attracted youth on a large scale. Students nowadays pursue B.Tech agriculture and MBA degrees and turn their focus towards development of this industry.

The rural businesses have developed one more category that is Ayurvedic herbs. Adulasa is a medicinal Ayurvedic plant used in cough syrups, Aloe Vera as we all know is widespread in all beauty and skincare products. Never the less Amla is of immense importance in health industry as in making of chawanprash.

Along with that Amla is useful in making Amla syrup, Amla candies that are appreciated delicacies and their production stands as a rural small scale business.

Talking about other business sources in rural areas, bamboo artifacts also attract markets on a large scale. Bamboo cultivation and its artifact production is an important rural income source especially for local tribes.

Moving on to regional rural entrepreneurship, small scale businesses have peeked into every region according to the local cultivations. For example, Bandhani work in Rajasthan has gained popularity all over India, Handlooms have flourished on small scale basis in Gujarat, Maharashtra had a wide variety of local foodproducts like ‘ambapoli’ ( a delicacy made from mangoes), ‘kokam syrup’ (a refreshing drink of kokam) as an emerging attention-seeking business.

Rural entrepreneurship are the flourishing trees of development and they contribute to the tag of business enterprises on an important basis.
