I think of myself as an optimistic person. But I’m a Virgo who can spot an error a mile away, excels at critical thinking, and gets anxious about almost anything.

As my self-awareness has increased, my ability to reign in those less desirable Virgoan tendencies has improved. But recently, when I suffered a symptom flare, I wondered if negativity had surreptitiously snuck in and adversely affected my health.

My hereditary disorder (Hereditary Alpha Tryptasemia) can’t be erased, but it can indeed be calmed through a positive mindset. This isn’t woo-woo thinking; medical science has confirmed the power of a positive attitude.

Here’s one example from Johns Hopkins Medicine:

“People with a family history of heart disease who also had a positive outlook were one-third less likely to have a heart attack or other cardiovascular event within five to 25 years than those with a more negative outlook.”

The Mayo Clinic offers more astounding health benefits that may result from a positive mindset:

  • Longer life span
