The Candle has been used for healing, in different religion ceremonies and for metaphysical purposes for about as long as fire has been around. On physical levels, it represents the eternal light of the soul and the connection to our core being. Fire operates in all aspects of life, from volcanic fires to the fires of intellect, fire’s presence is felt nearly everywhere. When we use the fires of candles, we are participating in the ritual of fire that has existed throughout the ages.

Candle meditation is practiced as you would imagine by focusing on the flame of a candle. It can be done as a warmup for your regular meditation, or it can be your entire meditation regimen. You can achieve candle meditation by taking a lit candle, sit in front of it and stare at the flame. You will begin to think of everyday items, and things that are on your “to do” list. Eventually those thoughts will fade, and you will be left with your free mind. As you focus on the candle flame, your concentration skills will become stronger, and you will be open to explore your journey of Self Enlightenment.

Scented candles are said to have a calming effect. They improve a person’s mood as the essential oils in them brings about that effect. It is known that stress is a factor in many diseases so the calming properties of some scents can be good for a person’s health. The glow of the candle is comforting and its warmth creates a cozy atmosphere.

Many candles have a mixture of scents so that the benefits are multiplied. The curative powers of aromatic scents have been known for centuries. We prefer a beeswax candle for it’s purity and clarity, and coupling that with the burning of incense for a perfect ambiance for meditation.
