In an increasingly digital world, it is critical that we make efforts to understand and cultivate emotional intelligence for enhanced performance. There are ‘social’ parts of our brain that enable our ability to empathize and interact with others. However, when there are limited channels for our brain to get feedback (i.e., online), we are essentially operating in the dark. This can lead to a negative bias while reading emails or the classic online-amygdala hijack (i.e., pounding out an aggressive email and immediately regretting it).

Emotional intelligence is a set of human skills which requires sharpening:
1) Self-awareness
2) Self-regulation / managing your emotions (different from suppressing)
3) Empathy towards others (critical when creating content, products, etc)
4) Combining all 3 in how you interact with others
