Mythereum

On may 17th 2019, Mythereum performed a major visual update to their assets. This included a revamp of their Deck Builder, both of which we will extensively review below. There will be three primary points to cover; Rarity, Effects and Deck Builder. The video below highlights the Deck Builder while reviewing the impact of the color rarities on various card visuals, enjoy!

25 Minute Visual Review

That was some update, Wasn’t it! Just cannot come to terms with which were my overall favorite artistic upgrades! Birs, Desert Dweller, Tiger, The trio of Elves, Dinosaur, Nasala, Gabrielle, Bones, Eagle, Gegrus, Hathorlum, Steambot, Vrugbod, Rhegu, and most definitely, Dark Wolf!? The one that was likely the most disappointing was ……Versaisias! She was at a higher rarity during testing, but ended up plain ol’ Quartz ((Truzzak & Lion as well) — though better than carbon!

Below are the 9 rarest cards to date in Mythereum, 3 per set, each with a different rarity. Thereafter, we will get into the details of how rarities are currently determined. Currently, rarity has no impact on the card itself, only applies visual differences. This may change in the future however!

Starting with Diamond, these are the third rarest cards amongst the three sets (genesis, survivor, awakening):

Specimen 39, Fralopa and Gurvait take the cake for 3rd place! Give them a round of applause! /clap!

Next up is the 2nd rarest, Black Opal classification. These cards are extremely rare, and even useful. Let’s give CR33B, Arryn and Cornaith a round of applause! /clap! /clap!

Last, but definitely not least, these 3 are the Mythical Rares of each set, using a Mythstone (Rainbow) to identify their rareness. Of these three, Birs is the most useful in awakening! Conductor and Daelanak do not see much use currently. (Maybe with these visuals, that will change!) ////golfclap!

About Rarity in Mythereum

Mythereum Rarity is algorithmically determined and is based on the current number of unique card types in existence, this means that Rarity will dynamically evolve and will be recalculated on a weekly basis.

There are 2 aspects to Rarity. 1) Rarity Gem: This signifies the relative rarity of cards within an edition 2) Rarity Metal: This signifies the relative rarity globally across all cards and editions. Note that Gem Rarity is algorithmically determined and not an artificial form of rarity that can be determined in advance.

So, for example, the Mythereum team did not select “The Conductor” as to be ranked as the rarest card in the Genesis Edition. Rather, this was purely determined by the random minting process, and they were as surprised to see that as anyone else.

  • Note also that rarity in Mythereum has no relationship to the power of a card except by chance. With the latest update cards will now reveal their edition rarity that is represented by the Gem. A later update will introduce the global rarity represented by the Metal.

Rarity calculations

Mythereum first determines a ranking order of all unique card types in an edition based on the number of instances minted. In the case where there is an exact same number of 2 card types, then the most recent (which is the later tokenID) is taken as the rarest and given the higher rank of the 2.

For edition rarity, the algorithm dynamically calculates the number of unique card types currently in existence (this evolves when new editions are launched and some instances are not yet minted into existence — especially with editions like Mythicats).

It then assigns the first three ranks to the gems for Mythstone, Black Opal, Diamond. Then it takes the remaining 12 Gems and assigns the remaining cards equally between the 12 gems. It does this by taking the current number of card types and dividing by 12, so a large edition with say 1200 unique card types gets 100 card types assigned to a gem band each, while a small edition with say only 60 card types will get 5 assigned to each band. When there is an odd number left over these simply get added to the last gem band representing the most common cards (Carbon).

Rarity — Rarest (top left) <—> More Common (bottom right), Carbon as most common have no gemstone

Rarity Gems

Top Tier Gems (Unique Gem Shapes):

1. The Mythstone — (The Rarest Gem in Mythereum)

2. Black Opal

3. Diamond

2nd Tier Gems (Classic Elegant Gemstone cuts)

4. Ruby

5. Emerald

6. Sapphire

7. Taafiette

3rd Tier Gems (Standard Gemstone cuts)

8. Painite

9. Grandidierite

10. Tanzanite

11. Benetoite

4th Tier Gems (Common simple cuts)

12. Amethyst

13. Topaz

14. Quartz

15. Carbon

  • Note: Carbon does not have a gemstone, so there will just be an empty base plate where the gem should be.

How the ranks are distributed for the current Editions

Genesis124 cards the top 1,2,3, gems get just 1 card each. The remaining 121 are divided by the other 12 gem bands. Which equates to 10 cards per band and the remaining leftover 1 gets added into the carbon band.

This is a single common algorithm and works the same way for any Mythereum edition. Ensuring that approximately 1/12th of card types get placed in a gem band (except for the 3 most rare gems).

In the cases of the other 2 current Editions where all card types have already been minted into existence, we can then see how this will work for those editions by doing the same calculations in:

Awakening 72 card types, removing the 1–3 top rare gems leaves 69 card types . 69/12 means 5 card types per gem band and the last 9 card types left over get added into the carbon category (so 14 card types are in the Carbon band).

Survivor95 cards, again removing the top 3 card types for the top 3 rarity gems leaves 92 card types to be distributed among the other 12 gem bands. 92/12 means 7 per gem band with the 8 remaining that go into carbon (so 7+8 , means 15 card types are in the Survivor Edition Carbon band).

As we can see, a lot of math is involved with this process, and is not a simple factor. As of today this does not affect gameplay in any way and is simply for peoples knowledge of the card rarity and adds a nice visual acuity.

Let’s review the parts of the card now, as alot has been added/changed:

Elite training Card
  1. Class: (Yellow Box — top) This is where any attributes of the card are listed. This is the current class of this card, Cyborg.
  2. Level: (Purple Box — top left) This is the total combination of upgrades applied to a card, it does not differentiate between attack or defensive upgrades. The current maximum level is 60. (30 on each side)
  3. Health: (Green circle — left) This is the base Health of the card. When this is reduced to zero, the card is defeated and discarded.
  4. Attack: (Green Circle — right) This is the base Attack of the card. This is used to reduce other cards or other players’ health to win hopefully.
  5. Bonus Health: (Red Circle — Left) This is the bonus Health provided by an activated ability. When activated, any incoming attack reduces this number first, then the overflow is applied to the base health.
  6. Bonus Attack: (Red Circle — Right) This is the bonus Attack provided by an activated ability. When activated, this number is added to the base attack to empower the card to do more damage.
  7. Ability: (Blue Rectangle — Center Top) This is the name of the Ability that this card controls. When the Magick (bottom blue circle) is utilized, the bonus(es) in red are then applied to the base stats (green). Ability text has now been added to cards to articulate what the ability provides. (Middle)

Please note: Not all cards have bonuses to both attack and health. many are single types, with cards like this being hybrid, and great for displaying functions.

Another amazing aspect not shown in the video above, is the Card profile page! This page exists for any card you own. it will highlight it’s set, class, ability and other features. it will also let you know in what order it was minted, the rarity and uniqueness of any given card. This is also where we will now upgrade our card(s), and it even has tickers to show how many times the card base stats have been upgraded!

A much anticipated update also tells us the Power Score, Magick Score and Battle Counter of any specific card we own! Exciting!

Here is a video of the new cards in action:

Visual Battle

As stated in the video, and veterans will have likely noticed, auto battles are sped up incredibly as compared to before. Additionally, Mythereum hopes to have a visual update to help the visual access to cards stats while still in the hand. otherwise the update has been a great success, and no wonder it was highly anticipated for weeks, let alone months!
