Mythereum — Abilities Review (Superior Wit)
Welcome back to Mythereum! This article is the fourth in a series of many that will cover all original abilities in the primary card sets. Genesis, Awakening and Survivor all possess unique and differing abilities assigned to their sets, with little to no crossovers for most of them! Today we will cover the Hybrid ability: Superior Wit!
Superior Wit is a “Hybrid” ability, in that it produces a beneficial stat boost regardless of whether you are attacking or defending (as long as you have the magicks to cover it) of course. This ability provides a +40 attack power boost, and a +20 health boost on defense. It requires only Two white magick to activate, and thus is a highly coveted hybrid ability. This means if you want the defense portion to proc, you will need to have at least four white magick available while as the leader card (the attack portion will always fire first).
All in all, 15 cards have the Superior Wit ability and are all part of the Genesis Block. As we mentioned above, Superior Wit is a coveted ability — yet only on a few cards, due to the competitive nature of genesis stats. If playing mixed matches with other sets, the options open up, but when pure genesis matching occurs, only a few Superior Wit cards remain competitive.
Specimen 48, Versaisias, Aeson, and The Surgeon make up a “Top 4” for this batch. Instead of choosing a top 3, I felt it was wise to include Surgeon due to it having the highest defense, just in case. Oddly, unlike most veteran perspectives, Aeson/Versaisias are NOT the best Superior Wit cards, but rather, Specimen 48 comes out on top with a base stat of 36/43. Beards rule too, just saying.
The stat breakdowns are quite straightforward, just keep in mind, to activate Superior Wit on the defensive side, you will need 4 White Magicks on the turn you put it into play. Given that none of these have a natural defense over 40, these are risky plays when lacking magick for the (small) boost of 20 defense, so play these carefully.
Maybe it’s me, but the characters in the above image may also appear meme worthy…..jus’ sayin. Versaisias and Aeson are generally interchangeable amongst playstyles of veterans these days. However please consider Specimen 48 for superior quality or Surgeon for additional natural defense. All of these cards will see their effectiveness directly impacted by upgrading via MX, especially on the defensive side, as most (good) Genesis cards will possess 40+ attack naturally.
Specimen 149, Specimen 63, and Specimen 121 generally can be best of the second tier, if you’re missing one of the top 4 pieces mentioned above. Other than these seven, I would highly recommend avoiding acquiring any of the others, unless it happens by random chance.
