NIKE the Greek Goddess
NIKE was a Greek goddess of victory with the Roman name of Victoria. The translation of NIKE is Victory because of all the peaceful competitions and wars she has won.
In pictures she is shown with grand wings, a sash, a crown, a bowl and cup, an incense burner, an altar, and a lyre to all symbolize her as a victor.
She has been worshipped for centuries before the competition to hopefully put the victory on their side. Athletes who wanted to win would praise her before their match, even today. The famous NIKE swoosh is very similar to the wings of Victoria. However, other sources say that the Swoosh is derived from other origins.
Wearing NIKE could symbolize that you want Victoria’s help and maybe give you victory in the next competition you enter.
