Last week, MediaWiki 1.31 was released. It’s a long term support release (LTS) that MediaWiki only releases every two years. In order to ensure maximum compatibility, MyWikis typically installs LTS releases for clients unless otherwise specified. Today, we begin our transition from 1.27 to 1.31. Because 1.31 is quite different from 1.27, MyWikis is hard at work ensuring that MediaWiki 1.31 is compatible with our current systems.
Today, we have upgraded our main server’s PHP version from PHP 5 to PHP 7. (This affects all wikis not on our VPS plan with a subdomain on mywikis.net.) The reason we didn’t do so before is because MediaWiki was previously incompatible with PHP 7 and older applications, but MediaWiki 1.31 is compatible with PHP 7 (and actually requires it too). All wikis, whether on 1.27 or 1.31, should function properly after this upgrade, but please do let us know if this is not the case by contacting us on the Ticketed Support System.
We are currently working out some additional kinks associated with VisualEditor. We’re making proper adjustments to our systems so that MediaWiki 1.31 will be compatible with our Parsoid systems. For now, all users who require VisualEditor to function should stay on MediaWiki 1.27.
If you have a wiki with us, you may request that we upgrade your wiki to MediaWiki 1.31. We will automatically upgrade all wikis to MediaWiki 1.31 when we are sure that everything is working. This may take a few weeks to months as we work through all of the issues associated with upgrading to 1.31.
Thanks for your patience and understanding. If you have any questions, feel free to contact us on the Ticketed Support System. https://support.mywikis.com/tss
