30 September 2017, Kigali, Rwanda, over the past two and half years Rwandans have acquainted themselves with Irembo, the one-stop portal for e-Government services, offering a wide range of citizen and business services ranging from basic identification certificates and land transfers services to community-based health insurance.

These services are poised to become even more accessible, efficient and user- friendly owing to a new partnership between RwandaOnline, the technology company behind Irembo, and N-Frnds, a global software provider specialized in providing sophisticated digital services that are accessible to all.

The partnership builds upon Irembo’s commitment to putting end-users first and ensures that Rwandan citizens and businesses receive a significantly enhanced user experience when applying for any e-government service, regardless of mobile device.

Rwanda’s rural users who have limited internet access will benefit from a greatly enhanced digital experience with their existing mobile phones., Guided by prompts, making it simpler for Rwandans to order a National ID, Register for driving tests or pay a traffic fine..

“We are taking advantage of the fact that over 5 million Rwandans have a mobile phone in their hands thus we ensure that critical services are available to them at anytime. At Irembo we keep finding new ways to present an even simpler menu to our users. This partnership was timely,” said Clement Uwajeneza, Managing Director, RwandaOnline.

This initiative aligns well with the Government of Rwanda’s vision that each citizen, visitor to the country of Rwanda, as well as the country’s businesses will have a single, online access point for all government services. No more waiting in line at government offices or making multiple trips to different agencies and the banks. Currently, Rwandans and business access e-government services from either the Irembo website or from any mobile device by dialing *909#.

RwandaOnline selected N-Frnds as a partner, given its strong track record with over 15 million active users globally, and its robust and proven cloud-based Software as a Service (SaaS) solutions. N-Frnds has a strong presence in Rwanda, where it has been active since 2014, with partnerships with the two major mobile operators (Tigo Rwanda and MTN Rwanda), The Rwandan Ministry of Agriculture, USAID, ICT Chamber, and kLab, among others. In May 2016 during the World Economic Forum in Kigali, N-Frnds CEO Dorron Mottes announced that the company had selected Rwanda as its headquarters for Africa.

The partnership with N-Frnds, demonstrates RwandaOnline’s commitment to both positioning itself as a global digital leader while at the same time ensuring that all Rwandans are part of the digital world. The platform is already live and powering Irembo since September.
