🚀 Godspeed, Jannicke Mikkelsen!🚀
In just a few hours, Jannicke is blasting off to space with SpaceX as part of FRAM 2—a groundbreaking, privately funded human spaceflight mission. This mission is truly unique, placing the crew in polar orbit around Earth, where they’ll conduct 22 science and research experiments over four days, enhancing our understanding of the polar regions. It's an exciting mission with polar science high on the agenda. The crew will observe Earth's polar regions over 430 kilometers (267 miles) above the surface, allowing the Crew Dragon Resilience to travel from the North to the South Pole in under an hour.
This route provides extensive coverage, enabling observation of areas and phenomena other missions cannot access. Throughout Fram2’s time in orbit, the crew will take the first x-ray in space, perform exercise studies to maintain muscle and skeletal mass, and grow mushrooms in microgravity.
Jannicke will be the Mission’s Vehicle Commander— she's an acomplished explorer, a cinematographer, and someone with vast experience filming in extreme environments on Earth. This is another incredible first in her journey!
I had the honour of introducing Jannicke to the AI crowd at CogX Festival back in 2019, where she joined an all-star panel on space exploration alongside Lord Martin Rees, James Parr (NASA FDL/ Trillium Technologies), Rafel Jorda Siquier (Open Cosmos). I had the privilege of chairing this panel, which was a milestone for Naaut, marking its debut as a content partner and bringing space to the CogX agenda for the first time at London Tech Week.
Fast forward six years—so much has evolved in the space industry. A reunion to reflect on how these conversations have progressed sounds like a must!
