At Nabr, we believe that creating a home that residents will love isn’t just about designing a beautiful building, but contributing to a vibrant neighborhood. That’s why — as we discussed in our previous post — we designed Nabr’s first two buildings, SoFA One and Two, to incorporate over 10,000 square feet of publicly-accessible, landscaped plaza.

It’s important to us that our residents not only interact with their neighbors in San Jose, but can also access beautiful shared spaces where they can build community with each other. So we worked with the talented folks at Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) to design Nabr’s towers to include generous indoor and outdoor spaces reserved for residents only. In this blogpost, I’ll walk you through these thoughtfully designed and curated amenities.

A Site plan shows the layout of the SoFA One and Two Towers; it points out the public plaza as well as the shared resident spaces.
The southern edge of our site contains outdoor spaces for Nabr residents only. The north corner of the site, between 2nd and San Salvador, contains a plaza with greenery, retail, and outdoor furniture. Learn more about the design of that publicly-accessible space here.

PRIVATE RESIDENT PARK

Separated from the publicly-accessible plaza by a sliding gate, Nabr residents have access to a private resident park with outdoor seating — a calming, flexible space for serendipitous encounters with neighbors. Further south, a set of bookable barbecues create a great spot for socializing and/or family gatherings. And, for our residents’ furry friends, there’s a dog park, too.

Fitness Center/Outdoor Wellness. Sited directly in front of the fitness center and surrounded by a sensory garden, the wellness area can host yoga classes or other wellness events. In addition, our fitness center will be run by a world-class gym operator — we’ll release the details after we break ground.

Co-Working Lounge/Outdoor Co-Working. Our indoor lounge (with beverage bar and library) and outdoor co-working space (with power outlets and shading to reduce screen glare) offer two unique alternatives to the office.

RESIDENT LOBBY

Each Nabr tower will also include a ground-floor lobby with attendant, where residents can sign in guests, receive mail/packages, and store their bikes. The lobbies are clad in the sustainable timber that is used throughout the building, creating a warm entry to the SoFA towers.

ROOFTOP RESIDENT LOUNGE AND TERRACE

A plan shows the site of SoFA One and Two, pointing out where the rooftop reisdent lounges and terraces are located.

Beyond the spaces mentioned above, the roof of SoFA One and Two will provide additional indoor and outdoor communal space for residents. Offering a Chef’s Table, wine cooler and refrigerated storage, the rooftop lounge and terrace will be perfect for social gatherings — and can be rented for events, too.
