Why it’s time for Muslims to divorce 9/11 for good.
Prediction Sep 11,2017: Muslims will move past 9/11 this year: a toxic 16 year relationship of guilt by association we didn’t ask to be in and no longer need to give fucks about.
September 11th 2017. Half my life later.
I am filing for an end to our relationship 9/11.
I still remember our first day together.
I wish I could forget it.
September 11th 2001.
I remember walking into the cafeteria at the Schulich School of Business in Toronto, Canada on my first day of university and seeing everyone glued to the TV as the Twin Towers collapsed.
I also remember in the moments, days, and weeks to follow being asked if my religion was violent when people found out I was Muslim. If it condoned this sort of behaviour. If I had terrorist inclinations.
16 years later I have to keep answering that same fucking question. So does every other Muslim. Any time 1 individual out of a billion does anything evil and says they did it in the name of the faith. To be blamed and to apologize for actions not by us.
Every. Day. Repeat.
My ex-wife and I don’t agree on much (kinda why we are ex’s) but we both agree that our three Canadian-Muslim kids aren’t going to be subjected to the shadow that lived in our psyches for our entire adult lives since we were 18 years old.
9/11 made a lot of pieces of garbage very rich. Counter terrorism experts, Military death makers, Muslim apologists willing to kiss ass to right wing pundits, Academics who all of a sudden became an expert in all things Islam when a year before had 5 people in their seminar.
Meanwhile average Muslims all over the world bore the brunt.
If you were lucky you just got harassed, verbally attacked, or discriminated against.
If you weren’t lucky you got incarcerated, profiled, or worse yet dead.
Meanwhile in those same 16 years while the powers that be were so obsessed with the shariah creep, they ignored the vanilla creep and the anti-Muslim creep.
Of economic, social, and religious losers with nothing left to live for.
Of racist bigots, with suits, badges, and high ranking positions.
Of colonialism that never went away but just was waiting for its moment.
Now while those same pundits, experts, and people still point fingers at groups like ISIS, they conveniently don’t seem to have the same fervour when it comes to stopping people who look like them. To Neo Nazis marching in the streets. The same people who let Afghanistan and Iraq be invaded don’t seem to want to go anywhere Muslims actually need help, only just to kill them.
9/11 you made people want to eradicate Muslims from the face of the planet across the globe from India, to Burma, to Canada, the US, Europe and beyond. Sadly you were so toxic that some of those people are in gutless Muslim countries too busy being douche bags galore to even care about their own fellow brothers and sisters in faith. Still trying to apologize to you lest they not have your favour.
For 16 years we Muslimzzz have had to defend ourselves from radical Muslims and from suspicion, doubt, and hatred. From notions of what the religion is and the worlds blaming us for Islamic narrative getting owned by radicals. Avoiding too why anti terror strategies have been abysmal failures. Instead of utilizing us 9/11 demonized, ostracized, and created toxic versions of us in its own image.
So average Muslims are sick of this shit and out of self preservation online and elsewhere we keep fighting “them” the ones who say they own our religion. The one 9/11 created. We won’t back down from ISIS or whatever mutant monstrosity that comes up next. We are kicking them out of our lives. We have no choice for the kids sake. We are taking them and leaving them and you 9/11. You can have each other.
Meanwhile we have to see pictures of little Muslim Rohingya kids getting decapitated. Because again 9/11 and it’s lover terror have made the lives of those Muslims kids worthless to the point that they don’t deserve mercy. If the situation were reversed and the Rohingya were Buddhist, the world would come to the rescue a long time ago.
So where the fuck are you world? Do we not deserve some humanity support? Do we need a court order or something to enforce it? Don’t you have some shared co-humaning duties too on weekends? Or does 9/11 whisper in your ear any time you think of helping? About how bad we were to it? How we deserve it?
Where are the counter terrorism experts making sure that white supremacist assholes can’t congregate online.
Or entrapping them.
Where is the invasion of countries where Muslims get slaughtered to save them?
Why not bomb and invade Burma like Iraq and Afghanistan?
Nope. Silence.
Sure average people are protesting, talking online.
But we need more than that. We need the levers of the states, our institutions to eradicate and obliterate with fervour white supremacy the same way we have decided to combat Islamic extremism.
We need military power to come to the rescue of little girls and boys fleeing for their lives: being burned to death. Little kids like MY MUSLIM KIDS.
So 3000 people died during 9/11. Sorry I don’t care anymore. That sounds harsh but what’s harsher is knowing that those 3000 lives have made millions more have no value. I am a jilted lover and my love has turned to ashes in my mouth for all the time I gave you.
If 9/11 wasn’t so selfish it would stop feeling bad for itself and see that it doesn’t like everything about Islam sure, but the Muslims hell yeah they really tried to make the relationship work.
But 9/11 always just kept blaming us no matter how hard we tried. Every time some Muslim with brown skin who yells Allahuakbar shows up. We are back to zero.
No longer.
We are done with you 9/11. We found someone else. Allah, God, faith , all of it. We are down for Islam and will commit to it.
Not you.
So blame us next September 11th, and the next and the next.
I just signed the divorce papers and…
… I am over you.
