Review of Joanne Yj Kim’s, “PROJECT chicaGO: the Poetry Foundation”
Thoroughness and Comprehension: (+)
Absolutely well done. The amount of detail that went into this was outstanding. This is a great concept that I’m excited to follow along for the semester. Keeping the title of the publication in each headline is a nice branding touch. One critique for the future is using the gray, H3 subhead as a teaser to what is going to be covered. Utilize some of the metaphors you brought up later on to really hook in readers to continue.
For example:
PROJECT ChicaGO: the Poetry Foundation
“Chicago’s little black dress”
Stretching of creative muscles: (+)
Your voice really shines in this writing. It’s authoritative while conversational which is perfect for this casual “around town review” style. I’d challenge you to build your own Medium publication called PROJECT ChicaGO to house all of your future writings in this project. I feel like you would have an audience.
Using the right tools for the job: (+)
Great idea to bounce between stacking some imagery and having some imagery exist in a 2-up layout, it lends itself to the magazine-like style that this review speaks to. Also, great use of mixing video, outside references, and proper captions. All of your typographical options are spot on. In the future, try out some embedded video options to really bring the content to the users face instead of hiding it behind a link.
