Review of kt hawbaker-krohn’s “Wimmen in Comics Wednesday: Shaka Kaska”

kt hawbaker-krohn, It’s great to read an interview piece from you, especially in the Wimmen in Comics series! You got some great conversation out of your subject which was great, and I enjoyed the gentle use of pull quotes to tease great instances in the conversation. Nice work.
Here’s some formal things to consider. When dealing with smaller images such as these GIFs, think about alternative methods of display. Right now, all the GIFs are center-aligned and taking a full width approach, but how would some of them look to the left so they appear inline instead of separating the content? With images on Medium, you can hover over them and adjust the display method. With the GIFs, this is an example of “too much of a good thing”. I could have done without the first and last two GIFs (especially with a seizure TW) and still grasped the point of using Bugs Bunny as a thematic element. A stronger option would be using another comic example to lead into the story instead of the initial GIF.
With this interview writing, it would have been helpful to close or open the interview with options to find more information about Shana Kaska. I noticed she doesn’t have a strong internet or social media presence with my brief research, so this is an opportunity to link to other things or to ask if she’d like to promote a future project.
“Enjoyed this interview with Shana Kaska and want to keep up with her work? She’s working on [this project] and you can find out about it [here].”
The Great Discontent does a fantastic job of internet native interview writing, check them out for a bit of inspiration!
