There I was, just a seed in my mom’s tummy. Her choice, to take care of herself with nutritious food and to stay positive. After nine months, she embraced me and taught me the ways of the world. She is my first teacher. From instilling good manners to becoming my best friend, she has imbued in me countless lessons that I will always remember for the rest of my life.

When my father was away at work, my mother saved up as much as she could from her monthly allowance to buy me movie tickets. It was a way we bonded with each other and shared ideas of the world. The reason why I am such a die-hard Harry Potter fan today is because she took me to all the movies.

Growing up I realised that the biggest gift she gave me was her time. Her undivided attention towards me and just being with each other without obsessing over our worries, made me feel so loved. And that’s exactly how I reciprocate my love for her.

As I return from work after a tiring day, I ensure I ask her how her day was. She lights up and tells me every minute detail of how she spent her time. Whether it was having a hearty conversation with her cousin or empathizing with the troubles of the maid, she finds solace in sharing everything with me.
