I Came To Medium for the Community
And I will stay for the community
I discovered Medium in 2016 when a friend of mine posted a note here. Those days we logged in with Twitter. When I created an account, I was dazzled by the easy editor and the ability to just write and publish. I already had my own websites (my official writing/blogging/editing journey started in 2003). My first thought was — do I really need another platform for my writing when I already have six websites to manage? The answer was yes, because Medium had a thriving ad-free writing community. Finding out later that it ranked well in the search engines was a bonus.
However, I didn't have the time. I was already stretched too thin. 2018 saw me wandering in to read a friend’s story and I ended up writing a few stories for The Startup. But I drifted away again as I traveled a lot as an influencer online and life was busy — blogging, social media, family and friends.
Then the pandemic hit us. Remember that year? We thought it was the end of the world as we knew it. Creators struggled due to client budget cuts. As a blogger who was doing well, I was devastated because brands were putting away their wallets. Many quit.
