I Now Measure Mom’s Birthdays in Memories
She would have been 80 today if she were here
Dear Mi,
When I think back to the times we spent together, I can’t help but smile and occasionally burst into laughter. Your sense of humor was so infectious; you always believed laughter was the best medicine. It is–thank you for that lovely life lesson.
If you were here today, you’d be 80. 80! Can you imagine? I always visualized you as a physically frail but mentally sharp 80-year-old, ruling us with your love, steering us with kindness, and always reminding us how wonderful life is.
We often reminisce about you fondly, and enjoy our do-you-remember fest. I often catch Sury gazing at the framed black and white photo of you above his whiteboard. While video-calling with V today, I saw him tilt his laptop screen to show him the photo.
The three of us miss you every day.
Besides the wealth of memories we’ve shared, I have my own personal ones I wistfully dwell on.
My eyes fill up when I think of all the times we fought over who would read that new book first. These days, my growing library misses you. There are so many wonderful books I wish you were around to read, especially the crime thrillers.
