I Started Dressing Up For ‘Work From Home’
Subtle shifts are happening
Since I started my freelance writing about four years ago, I’ve worn lounge clothes all day. In a blink, I went from someone who used to love to dress up for the office to someone who could stay in the same ratty home clothes all day.
Articles about “dressing up for work even though you are working from home” made my eyes glaze over. I argued with them in my head. I thought I was being productive while staying comfortable. I could not see the con of this method of dressing and working.
My work clothes languished and gave me the stink eye each time I opened the cupboard. I felt their sense of abandonment. But my comfy lounge clothes always won.
Four years ago, I made a conscious choice to break away from a full-time corporate job for the flexibility of being available to my teenage daughter. These four years have been amazing and allowed me a chance to connect with her deeply.
Children grow up. Our job as parents is to enable them and give them wings. My daughter is now away at college. This gives me the bandwidth to focus on my career again. As I began to list ideas and strategies to move forward, articles I had read in the early days came rushing back into my head.
