My Wild Wrap-Up — How I Made My Wish List Come True
I slowed down to get ahead
At the end of each year, I review the items I checked off my wish list, but it’s more of a “just-do-it list” rather than a wishing well. Wishes are wasteful wonderings — you close your eyes, pray to the stars, hoping they’ll magically manifest, and then do nothing to activate the process. Or you can make a plan, do the work, and make your own magic.
I do love to partake in a “wasteful wondering” now and then, like winning the lottery and fantasizing about the amazing things I’d do with the cash, knowing I’d never make it to the store counter to buy a lotto ticket. It’s fun playing out that dream — I’d be living on a tropical island, a chef would be preparing my meals, and I could read, write, and swim all day.
But I live in the real world, so I’d rather find ways to make attainable wishes work. Instead of flying off to a secluded tropical island via private jet—I pack a picnic, bike to the beach, and go for an ocean swim. I’ll read a novel as I rest my bikini body in the sun and head home to make dinner for my family. I’ll do some writing or reading before bedtime or just do the laundry if I don’t have the brain energy. I’m still living the dream — but on a different scale.
