A Street Dog Passed On Today

In Bangalore, dogs are a common sight on the streets. We adopt them, they adopt us, and we all live in happy camaraderie.

My cousin adopted one such doggie on his road and named him Bonnie. That fella was unbelievably adorable. See the cover picture. Isn’t he the cutest? My cousin couldn’t stop clicking his photos and sending them to all his dog-loving friends and relatives. Today, I discovered I have loads of photos of Bonnie on my phone collected over the years.

Whenever I visited my aunt, my cousin would whistle, and Bonnie would run towards us from under whichever car he was napping. Cousin and dog were besties.

A few years ago, this little bundle of joy was in an accident. My cousin took him to a local vet and nursed him back to health. My aunt grumbled about the attention the dog was getting, but she was secretly happy to see her son taking care of Bonnie. She was fond of this doggo, too. Who wouldn’t be? He was gentle and loving and had the kindest eyes.

When I visited, he’d come to me with a smile on his face. No, really! He always looked pleasant and happy.

My cousin just messaged me — our little buddy is no more. He was aging. I could see…
