Dear Family, Please Don’t End My Marriage in Divorce
Indians and Their Obsession with Relatives
Do you know what India’s biggest reason for divorce is?
Yes, you guessed it right from the title — family.
But why is that the case?
Why don’t differences or even infidelity top this list in India?
One of the most difficult customs to live with in India is the culture of blood relations. This deep-rooted tradition of blood relations or what we call as relatives has been passed down through generations, and most of us struggle with it, even if we don’t openly admit it.
If you are an Indian, I am sure you won’t be able to deny this reality.
Let me explain this culture in simple terms, and you can decide whether you relate to it or not.
In India, we are taught from childhood that family comes above everything — and I mean literally every Indian grows up with this belief.
As we grow older, we continue to love our parents and siblings. But then, we create a new family of our own — we get married, we have children — yet we still follow the same tradition:
We love both families — the one we were born into and the one we create through marriage.
