Here is the short Chapter 1 of the novel I am writing for NaNoWriMo 2017. I wanted to give you a peek into my story while I continue to pen it down.

I decided to post the chapter here and make it easy and mandatory for me to march ahead with the story. Let me know if you like it.

Chapter 1.

‘You must read Feynman. That guy had a sense of humor only you can understand Ava,’ Sam said, pointing at the book on the table.

‘Hmmm,’ Ava acknowledged that she had heard him. A pair of black glasses perched on her nose, she ran her finger from the top to the bottom of the index of a big fat book. She was looking for something specific.

‘Feynman had an extremely impressive way of explaining daily physics. He would simplify concepts and represent them diagrammatically. Imagine talking to a child about Quantum Mechanics. If you can explain Quantum Mechanics to a kid, you are a genius. Feynman has been that unparalleled genius,’ Sam slapped his hand on the book.

‘I believe you, Sam,’ Ava said, taking her eyes and finger off her book.

‘At least you don’t start working on Calculus problems as soon as you are up. I love you for that you know. Feynman’s wife divorced him because he solved Calculus the moment he opened his eyes,’ Ava looked at Sam from the top of her glasses and winked.

‘Maybe one day I will start doing the…’Sam started speaking when he was interrupted by someone laughing to himself at the next table.

Ava nudged Sam and smiled at him.

‘These are the people I like-carefree, happy, drinking soup alone, reading and laughing to himself,’ Ava said, looking at the young person sitting at the adjacent table laughing all alone.

Sam looked at him and smiled.

‘Looks like the book is great company for you,’ Sam spoke out loud to him.

He looked up.

Green eyes. Ava noticed.

He smiled at Sam.

‘It is a great book,’ he said, putting his finger as a bookmark, he folded it and lifted it up so Sam could see the cover.

PG Wodehouse.

‘Yeah, I’ve read that one,’ Sam pointed at the book. ‘Hi! I’m Sam.’

He got up half way from the chair to shake hands. The pair of green eyes.

‘I’m Evan. Nice to meet you’ he shook hands with Sam.

He got up and came over to shake hands with Ava.

‘Evan. Nice to meet you!’ he smiled.

‘Ava. Nice to meet you too, Green Eyes,’ she smiled.

Evan looked surprised.

‘I’m sorry?’ he said.

‘Why are you sorry? I said Green Eyes. You have the greenest eyes I’ve ever seen on a person. Your eyes are the shade of Lawngreen, minus the lawn. I’m sorry, I’m just being myself. Ava here. Oh did I mention that already?’ Ava replied.

He laughed. He instantly liked her.

‘Would you like to join us Evan?’ Sam asked, his palms open, pointing at the empty chair next to him.

‘Sure, I’d love to. Thank you Sam,’ Evan dragged the chair gently and sat on it.

‘Oh, my soup. I’ll just get it here on this table,’ he got up again and brought his soup bowl.

It wasn’t really a bowl, Ava noticed. It was more like a tiny bucket. A bucket of soup. Blue on the inner walls and an ornate black on the outside.

Met Green Eyes today. He was having a bucket of soup. She noted down in her tiny notebook.

If you’ve liked it, clap for it so I know that I can happily drown Ava, Sam, or Evan in that bucket of soup in one of the next chapters.
