On the 7th September 2016, we received the good news Dynamics NAV 2017 Limited Beta is available. I went it to look for the W1 version, as of then it was not available. Then I visited the site again, it was available, JOY!

In this post, I wanted to talk about what’s in there for a developer in NAV 2017 — Limited Beta.

Features will be bullet pointed in this post, and each feature will be a different post. Stay tuned.

  • Extensions

Extensions got extended to Reports, XMLPorts, and Queries. NAV 2017 extensions will support web services, restore / backup data, support for .NET interop types, refined PowerShell cmdlets and user install / uninstall extensions from the application itself.

  • Web Services in multitenant deployments

Per tenant, web services can be published / managed.

  • Notifications in the UI

With the definition of local / global scope, developers can programmatically design the notifications which will reflect on the web client. My favorite feature so far.

  • Setup data in the (US version)

The US version of Dynamics NAV 2017 includes two RapidStart packages that will enable a fast implementation for a new company.

  • Application area tagging

Users can be assigned to different application areas in order to enrich their experience with their application area.

Concern: Can we hide data / show like we do in Security Filters?

  • Time series library

Joining the first member to the NAV’s machine learning capabilities, Time Series API will feature 5 of the most efficient forecasting algorithms on Azure ML, and developers can build own functionalities on top of this API, with the help of a generic API which will be published. Most anticipated piece of tech for the intensive data mining.
