Birmingham bar sells Cannabis infused cocktails — Part 2

I approached this week’s task in a more traditional way and used (or at least tried to use) the inverted pyramid structure. Whenever I am trying to put something together, automatically I always start with background because for me, it is setting the reader up for what is about to happen next or the lead up to the “juicy reveal”.

I don’t have a journalistic background, so it was a first for me, learning about the inverted pyramid structure. It’s only now, I am becoming more aware of it and noticing certain structures when reading articles.

So, I started off with the main “message” the basic, stripped back vital information in the title. I believe, this tells the reader what the story is about.

Who? — Birmingham Bar

What? — Cannabis infused cocktails being sold

Where? — Birmingham

I tried to not provide really specific details in the title such as the name of the bar or what part of Birmingham as this is provided in the intro.

“Hennessey’s Bar in Digbeth is selling Green Monkey CBD infused cocktails as the latest addition to their menu”

The intro again, provides the basics with a little more detail, I also added hyperlinks for the bar and the company Green Monkey so readers can look into it further.

Following this, I provided some background about Green Monkey CBD and CBD which was mentioned in the intro. This allows the reader to understand what Green Monkey and CBD is.

I also included a quote from the bar manager at Hennessey’s Bar as well as a positive customer quote to bring the story to an end.

A poll or question at the end of the article would be a nice way to finish the article even more so or to get comments/opinions/views on people who have tried the cocktail e.g. -

“Have you tried a CBD infused cocktail? If so, let us know your thoughts below”

It’s a great way for audience interaction and could potentially lead to a follow up story or a story from a different angle.
