As my team was researching this week’s blog post, we came across something interesting: there are very few resources (or even blog posts) that give any actionable information about how to build your Marketing Systems or why they’re vital for your business growth.

Literally, we found one blog post in the first 75 results on Google that had anything to do with building actual Marketing Systems that will benefit your business and help you grow. One. All the rest were either ads for businesses with the words “marketing systems” in the name or articles about why your marketing strategy should include defining your ideal client and understanding your customer journey — or blog posts about whether you should bother marketing your business at all. (That answer is “yes,” by the way!)

We then dug further, trying to figure out why this was. Are people just not searching for the term? That’s not the case, because there are tens of thousands of searches for “marketing systems” and “how to build marketing systems” monthly, and that number is rising steadily.

Is it because the keyword doesn’t rank? No…over 2.6 million results came up on Google within seconds and SEO results showed that interest in this topic is growing exponentially.

Our conclusion, after digging into the data, is that most companies that have the ability to build these systems aren’t interested in sharing how they did so, for a number of reasons.

We’re different. Our entire company is built around helping you as a small business owner build the systems your business needs to run smoothly and profitably — the systems that will equip your team to step up and help you drive your business forward.

Why Build Marketing Systems?

One might wonder, given the lack of information available on the topic: is it really necessary to build Marketing Systems? This is a great question — and my answer is an emphatic “YES.”

When you’re first starting out, you are your Marketing Team — you are the copywriter, graphic designer, video editor, social media manager, Marketing Assistant, and Marketing Coordinator. You’re the one holding it all together — and as such, you have to prioritize what will get done. If it doesn’t fit your schedule and abilities, it probably won’t happen.

As you grow, however, you’ll be able to expand your team and bring on team members that can take these tasks off your plate. While this is a fantastic thing, it will leave you wondering what you’ll need to delegate and how in the world you’re going to make sure things are done how you want them to be done.

At this point, you have two options:

  • Micromanage every little thing, which I don’t suggest…it will only serve to frustrate your new Marketing Team and take even more of your time. Trust me, this never ends well.
  • Create solid Marketing Systems that your team can use to create the strategy, marketing campaigns, and deliverables you’re looking for — and to execute them seamlessly, month after month. (Hint: this is the option that allows you and your team to thrive!)

How Do You Even Start?

Now that we’ve established the need for Marketing Systems, even for smaller or newer companies, the question remains: how do you do it?

If this is where you find yourself, believe me — you’re not alone. My Coaching Team and I talk with business owners every single week who have that same question. We help our Coaching clients build out some of these systems on a 1:1 basis, but we’ve realized that more is needed. (More on that in a moment!)

Marketing is a complex thing with a ton of moving parts. Its unique mix of strategy and creativity, along with the fact that it involves constant little changes, can be intimidating. How do you start to organize something like that?

Trust me, I get it! It’s not an easy thing. I have two main tips to help you get started:

  1. Don’t try to do it all at once. Start with documenting one process, then move on to the next. How would you like it done?
  2. Start with a proven framework and adjust it to your needs. This will not only help spark ideas, it will also save you a ton of time and money.

One thing to understand is that your Marketing Systems will not be built overnight, and they will evolve as your business grows — but starting the process is vital to your business growth. And we can help!

Seeing the need for this, my team and I are creating Marketing Systems Manual Packages to fit the needs of both smaller businesses with 1–3 Marketing Team members and larger companies with different needs. Companies of every size need strong marketing systems, but what those needs are will differ with the size of the company.

We’ll be opening up access to these systems soon. If you’d like to get on the waiting list, let us know! Building your marketing systems isn’t a quick or easy task, but there are ways to fast track it — and we can help. Once you have these systems in place, you’ll be amazed at the difference they’ll make!
