With our fifth episode airing earlier this month, the first five installments of the Narrative Design podcast has come to a close. We’ve presented you with a diverse range of speakers and topics, from artists to media scholars and journalists to Visual Novel writers, each with their own understanding of cultural narratives and their unique experiences in telling stories within those contexts.

Of course, this does not mean that the project is over — we are only getting started! We will be back with many more episodes next year, under more thematic installments. With guests ranging from game writers to fandom academics and NGO relief workers to sex workers’ rights activists, the conversations we are building will only get more exciting.

Since we started, we have but one dream in mind:

To provide you with critical listening material that will make you a better storyteller on a regular basis.

As a freelance artist and writer, I listen to a lot of audio material — during commutes, while drawing, before bed, and so on. Intellectually, you can say I grew up with audio lectures and taped conferences. I understand the value of making use of idle time for audio content that increase our critical thinking capacity and inspire us to do more with our craft. That’s how I got to where I am today.

So that’s what I and my partner CJ Camelia Jonathan consistently aim to bring to you, dear listeners. Something regular you can listen to on your commutes, and perhaps use to start a conversation with like-minded people next time you meet them.

Some episodes may be more suited to academics, others to aspiring writers, and still others to journalists, artists, or even activists. But our aim is to break down these traditional boundaries of specializations and opt for a more transdisciplinary approach to storytelling and narrative-building within our daily cultural contexts.

It is our belief that every storyteller has insights and experiences to share that other storytellers can benefit from, no matter the background.

But we need your help!

Initially, our plan was to put out an episode every two weeks — which we have managed to do with only very little occasional delays for the first five installments. But the fact remains that we are a two-person team, doing all these things:

These take time, and, often, money (a Soundcloud pro account, studio time, audio assets, etc). We don’t want to stop doing this, but until we have enough Patreon supporters to keep us going, we will be taking breaks every once in a while. Please click on the image below to go to our Patreon page!

Not on Patreon? Here is one more very important thing we need: Give us a rating and review on iTunes. These things will help us gain exposure. We will very much appreciate your reviews!

Oh, and one more thing: We won’t be sitting idly during this break. The most exciting thing about building and maintaining an experimental transmedia platform for your thoughts such as this one is that you get to expand it in any way you like!

So, in the coming year, we will be building a website, a feature for audio responses, live field recordings, partnerships for live conferences, and many more. Rest assured, you can look forward to better and more exciting episodes in 2016!

P.S. A very special thanks to my two Patreon supporters, Kiki Schirr of Tech Doodles and Gladys Lee of Hai Afrika!
