“It doesn’t taste like anything,” I said, biting down into the crispy, dry griddle cake.

“Of course it doesn’t. Food doesn’t taste like anything.”

I looked up, and found this was true.

“What does it taste like, then?” I asked. He looked down at me, from a great height.

“Memories.”
