|| RULES OF A MUSLIM HOME ||

Ta’leem (learning and teaching) should be an integral part of every Muslim home. In the days of the Sahaabah (radhiyallahu ‘anhum) it was common among them that they would make their homes into places of learning Deen.
The second greatest personality after the Ambiyaa (‘alaihimus salaam), Sayyiduna ‘Umar bin Khattaab (radhiyallahu ‘anhu), was inspired to accept Islam because of the same reason. When he visited the home of his sister Faatimah (radhiyallahu ‘anha), she and her husband, Sa‘eed bin Zaid (radhiyallahu ‘anhu), were learning the Quraan from Khabbaab (radhiyallahu ‘anhu). This led to ‘Umar (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) accepting Islam.
In Madeenah Munawwarah, ‘Umar (radhiyallahu ‘anhu) lived some distance away from the musjid. On account of the distance, he could not be present in Musjidun Nabawi all the time. Therefore he arranged with one of his neighbours that they both would take turns to go to Masjidun Nabawi (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) on alternate days. Each day the one who attended would teach the other what he had learnt from Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) for that day. In this manner they would remain fully informed of the teachings of Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam).
It was the habit of the Sahaabah (radhiyallahu ‘anhum) to come home and teach their wives and children what they had learnt from Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam). Every Muslim should also make it a daily practice that some learning and teaching takes place in his/her home.
The ta’leem should be done collectively with the entire family being present including the children. It should comprise of the following six aspects:
a) Fazaail (Virtues): Our senior ‘Ulama have very strongly recommended reading the books “Fazaail-e-A’maal”, “Fazaail-e-Sadaqaat” and “Fazaail-e-Durood” of Shaikhul Hadeeth, Hadhrat Moulana Muhammad Zakariyya Kandhelwi (rahimahullah). This will motivate us to embark on good deeds.
b) Masaail (Rulings): The book “Behisht-e- Zewar” of Hakeemul Ummah Hazrat Moulana Ashraf ‘Ali Thaanwi (rahimahullah) is sufficient for our necessary day to day masaail. The men of the home should also keep in contact with some pious experienced ‘Aalim to clarify those issues which they do not fully understand.
c) Recitation of the Quraan Majeed.
d) Zikr: The entire family should also engage in some zikr daily.
e) Du‘aa: Set aside some time daily for collective du‘aa. One person making du‘aa and another saying aameen is a means of du‘aas being readily answered, especially when young innocent children are present as well.
f) Engaging and Discussing: Enquire from our children about their activities for the day. If it was something good then encourage them to continue with it. If there was some wrong then politely correct and educate them. We should also discuss and consult when embarking on any work, ensuring that it is in accordance to the Sunnah.
In this manner deeni knowledge and correct morals will be disseminated and learnt in the environment of the home and a desire to practise on deen will be created in our families. Otherwise every wrong influence will gradually overtake our children, leaving them morally bankrupt.
May Allah Ta’ala assist us in making our homes into gardens of Jannah. Aameen.
