If you weren’t already convinced that this NASH will be amazing, here are a couple more reasons to come through in January 2018.

Early bird ticket sales might be done, but now that regular priced tickets are on sale, you’re in luck! You can still buy your ticket today before the price goes up for latecomers.

Anita Li, Discourse Media

Hailing from Discourse Media, Anita Li is coming to NASH80 to teach us how to navigate the beginnings of learning 360 video. This session is meant for student journalists who want to take the next step in learning about creating 360 video and how to do it right. What makes a good video? And what ethics should be considered on this new medium?

Humour writing, The Beaverton

So, you think you’re jokes? Come learn the art of being funny with Canada’s best comedy publication. Alex Huntley and Emma Overton will be joining us in Toronto to talk about The Beaverton’s style and what goes into their work. Stretch your creative muscles and bring your wittiest questions to their workshop!

Sexy session, Xtra!

Come learn about why sex journalism is important. Part of Xtra’s mission is to set love free, and always promote, advocate, and choose stories that are sex-positive. They’ll be discussing consent increase, how to approach a subject and how to write about your own sex life.

Decolonizing the media, Journalists for Human Rights

While j-schools are doing their best to teach us about Indigenous reporting, it isn’t always (or nearly) enough. Journalists for Human Rights will bring some of the brightest voices among Canada’s Indigenous journalists to talk about how to decolonize the media. This is a must-have tool for any young Canadian journalist (and anyone who reads the news).

Carlos Martins, CUP media lawyer

The Canadian University Press’s lawyer will be attending NASH to host his own session to answer your FAQ about media law. Ever been sued, or unsure if you might get sued? Now is your chance to learn about what the possibilities are and how to protect your ass. Bring your publication’s scariest questions to this session!

Andree Lau, Huffington Post Canada

Huff Post Canada’s editor-in-chief is here to show us that thinking about diversity doesn’t start once a story is on the page — it starts before the story is even written. Andree is going to talk about how to include diversity in your pitches and ideation through her own tips and daily habits.

Jane Lytvynenko, BuzzFeed Canada

The Queen of debunking fake news will be taking the floor at NASH80 to show us her ways. Jane will be teaching us how to investigate the Internet and how to backtrack stories — how do you find the source of the story to make sure it’s true? Jane has the answers.

Allison Tierney, VICE Canada

After leading the way in Canadian media to cover the opioid crisis from its core, Allison will be bringing her tips and advice on how to report on the crisis, people who use drugs and other sensitive communities. She’ll be explaining the appropriate vocab to use when reporting on these topics and the mental stress that is associated with the job.

Erin Valois, National Post

As you’re getting more and more excited — or ahem, horrified — of graduating, Erin will come clutch with her advice on how to write a cover letter. As someone who has had to read a lot of good (and really bad) cover letters, Erin will be able to help you shine during your next job application. We know you’re the future of journalism, now it’s time to go get the jobs!

Marta Iwanek, Freelance Photojournalist

An award-winning photojournalist and amazing visual storyteller, Marta is bringing her talent back home for NASH80. She’s been spending her time traveling and freelancing, and is coming to talk about how she does it all. In an industry where photojournalism positions are dwindling, Marta will teach us how to get in and survive as a freelancer.

Does all this still sound cool?
