My Future Today

In service to leaders, change agents and changemakers in times of change and transformation.

What do I do today?

Energy follows attention. Wherever we place our attention today, that is where the energy of the system will go. That is why what we are called in to do today is to shift our attention from “what we are trying to avoid” to “what we want to bring into reality”. We can build the capacity to operate differently from a state of being “trapped in a victim mindset (“the system is doing something to me”)”, we can “shift to the viewpoint” to “see how we can make a difference and how we can shape the future differently.” (Quoting and paraphrasing Claus Otto Scharmer)

In essence that is about shifting from living in a world of “expectations” to living in a world of “intent”. Expectations keep us stuck in what we expect from others and that is a recipe for disappointments putting us in victim consciousness. Intent depends on us, it defines where we put our attention, how we chose to live our lives and what energy we bring into the world.

My attention today is placed on being in service to leaders, change agents, changemakers and their organisations in times of change. I help you get fit to get back your zest, thrive on change, lead with grace and confidence and create the beautiful workplaces we all long for.

I believe our future depends on how we lead, work and learn today, and that by learning to hold opposite perspectives, we find fresh solutions to our most tough challenges. That has become the base of the Opposites@Work© method- a fun and effective way of expanding mindsets, provoking unlearning and growth.

How do I do that?

My True North

I get lost every now and then, probably just as you do. What helps me in such moments is to ask myself:

  • Am I listening with the head or the heart?
  • Am I acting out of fear or love?
  • What irritates me and what can I learn about me from that?
  • What are the instinctive reactions that are not truly me?
  • What keeps repeating itself?
  • What am I asked to learn and master on this occasion?
  • What is this challenge a solution for?
  • What is the bigger context to be seen and bigger conversations to be held?
  • Deep down, do I know what is the right thing to do?
  • Who or what is being served if nothing changes or if this goes through?
  • What gives me energy? What makes my eyes shining?
  • Are people’s eyes around me shining and who am I being if they are not?

And if none of these work, I would tell myself — just hang on. It will clear out.

That’s my only true North and no matter how discouraged or lost I get at a given moment, I feel happy again once I ask myself these questions. Not much reasoning. Just the questions and the intuitive answers I feel in my heart. This is my calibration and this is all it takes to go back on track and be happy again.

What Inspires Me Deeply

I discovered that people are not really afraid of dying; they’re afraid of not ever having lived, not ever having deeply considered their life’s higher purpose, and not ever having stepped into that purpose and at least tried to make a difference in this world. — Joseph Jaworski

Work is sacred. It is not just a way to earn money or gain power, though it may result in both. Work is a vehicle for testing out our gifts and talents and using them to explore their meaning. Work is a process of self-expression, trial and error learning, creativity, and risk taking. No matter what kind of job we have, work always has these potentials. Work is spiritual. It is a place where we have the opportunity for spiritual growth. Often these opportunities come from the “how” of the ways we do our work rather than the “what” of the work itself. Regardless of what our work is, we can enjoy it. And it is most enjoyable when balanced with other aspects of our life and not a tyrant.— Anne Wilson Schaef

Everything that irritates us about others can lead us to an understanding of ourselves. — Carl Jung

If we can stay with the tension of opposites long enough — sustain it, be true to it — we can sometimes become vessels within which the divine opposites come together and give birth to a new reality. — Marie-Louise von Franz

If we expended all our energies solely on taking care of our own needs we would stop growing. In that respect what we call “soul” can be viewed as the surplus energy that can be invested into change and transformation. As such, it is the cutting edge of evolution. — Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi

How can you recall your personal greatness? By starting the process of chipping away everything that is not truly you. The fears you have picked up. The limiting beliefs you have accumulated. The false assumptions that divorce you from your most authentic — and staggeringly brilliant self. — Robin Sharma

If you think dealing with issues like worthiness and authenticity and vulnerability are not worthwhile because there are more pressing issues, like the bottom line or attendance or standardized test scores, you are sadly, sadly mistaken. It underpins everything. — Brene Brown

I don’t have to chase extraordinary moments to find happiness — it’s right in front of me if I’m paying attention and practicing gratitude.— Brene Brown

The business that leaders are in today, is the business of transforming awareness… There is deep longing for more meaning, for connections. —
Otto Scharmer

Crazy-busy’ is a great armor, it’s a great way for numbing. What a lot of us do is that we stay so busy, and so out in front of our life, that the truth of how we’re feeling and what we really need can’t catch up with us. — Brene Brown

Management has a lot to do with answers. But leadership is a function of questions. And the first question for a leader always is: ‘Who do we intend to be?’ not ‘What are we going to do?’ but ‘Who do we intend to be?‘ Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi

We are all connected and operate within living fields of thought an perception. The world is not fixed but is in constant flux; accordingly, the future is not fixed, and so can be shaped. — Joseph Jaworski

We seek to escape from separateness in various ways. We seek conformity, mistaking it for union. This is a soul-crushing way to exist. Or we seek union through orgiastic states — drugs, alcoholism, overwork — or through creative activities. But the ultimate escape from separateness is through interpersonal union. — Joseph Jaworski

All great things have small beginnings. — Peter Senge

Create the highest, grandest vision possible for your life, because you become what you believe. — Oprah Winfrey
