Every year in October, which just so happens to be Breast Cancer Awareness Month in the U.S., Think Pink Week is held by the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority on Central Michigan University’s campus. Recently, I had the opportunity to sit down with Shelby Randall, one of the Zeta sisters who ran the event this year, and ask her some hard hitting questions about the event.

In 2018, Randall ran the entire event. This year, however, she decided to take a backseat, and be a representative for the sorority instead. The goal of the representative is to talk to the fraternities on campus, and try to get them involved. According to Randall, though, the goals of Think Pink Week run much, much deeper than that. Listen to what she had to say about the week below.

Although the goals may not sound intricate or terribly difficult, trying to juggle school, work, a personal life, and then an entire week of events can push somebody over the edge. However, according to Shelby, the event went great.

A ton of work goes into planning the event every year. Each Think Pink Week starts to be planned an entire year prior to the actual event, however, that can be expected when events range from bake sales to an entire carnival.

Greek Life in general has a lot of negative press these days, so according to Randall, it’s important to remember that these organizations also do a lot of good. Last year, Greek Life at Central Michigan raised more than $90,000 for separate charities, and got almost no news coverage from the individual Central Michigan newspapers. There is more going on within the average “frat” and “srat” that what you see on the television.
