Insights from current research evidence on public service leadership

The National Leadership Centre helps the country’s most senior public service leaders develop the skills, knowledge and networks required to address society’s most complex strategic challenges

Our ambition is to ensure that high quality evidence underpins everything that we do, and helps members of our network to better understand how they can lead both within their organisation and across the public service system.

Between January and March 2020 we partnered with the Cabinet Office’s Open Innovation Team to bring together 64 academics and subject matter experts from 30 organisations to participate in 4 workshops, where we explored our four key areas of research interest.

We also commissioned 17 think pieces by leading academics to explore each of these areas further and to stimulate ideas about the future of public sector leadership and the role we at the NLC can play in this.

This evidence, along with other research that we’ve commissioned and produced internally, has helped us to refine our research programme and refresh our areas of research interest for 2020/21.

We look forward to hearing your thoughts on our work so far and how you can help contribute to the development of our evidence base. If you are a researcher or public service Chief Executive interested in working with us on this agenda, email us.
