On Primary Election Day, poll problems and a low turnout at this Brooklyn voting station, doesn’t seem to deter interested parties

Tuesday, Sept. 12 — At IS 246 in Brooklyn, technical glitches would not slow down the poll site’s responsibility to voters. A few scanners had not been working since 7am said the site’s coordinator, and they were also short staffed, as some volunteers had not arrived for the 5am roll-call. Despite these problems, this 40th District voting station on Veronica Place, would do its best to keep getting voters in and out of the booths as swiftly as possible.

This is one of a handful of contested districts in Brooklyn. There are 4 Democratic candidates on the ballot for the City Council. Pia Raymond, one of the four vying for the position against the incumbent Mathieu Eugene, says she cast her vote bright and early. But commenting on the turnout admitted that, “there are so many polling sites, so each one has a different vibe. I mean there’s that natural rush for people on their way to school and work, and then right now I see it’s a little bit calmer, I am hoping maybe lunch hour you’ll get the rush again.”
