New technical scholarship winners

The Founders Scholarship supports college engineering students pursuing a career in refrigeration.

The Ammonia Refrigeration Foundation (ARF), an Alexandria, Va.-based nonprofit education and research organization,has named three new recipients of its annual Founders Scholarship.

The scholarship is awarded to students “exhibiting exceptional character and interest in pursuing and engineering or related technical degree leading to a career in the refrigeration field,” according to ARF, founded in 2006 by the International Institute of Ammonia Refrigeration (IIAR).

The new Founders Scholars are: Samantha Farley, University of Delaware; Colby M. Rapp, University of Missouri; and Thomas Sauer, Pennsylvania State University.

The previously named and returning Founders Scholars: are Rachael Sealover, University of South Carolina; Connor Wheeler, University of Missouri; and James Schubert, Cal. Poly.

“We are thrilled to extend these scholarships in an effort to further support and develop qualified talent for this amazing industry,” said Lois O’Connor, ARF’s executive director. “Qualified and talented engineers and technicians are greatly needed in our growing natural refrigeration industry. The more opportunities we have to educate and impact the next generation, the stronger we will become.”

The six scholarships have been made possible by philanthropic support from individuals, corporations and foundations.

ARF renamed the engineering scholarship in 2017 to the Founders Scholarship in honor of the “founding fathers” of the IIAR: George Briley, Chuck Hansen, Don Niederer and Bill Richards.
