Natus System of Environmental Cryptoassets opens the code of its smart contracts to the public
The Natus System of Environmental Crypto-Actives, a positive initiative that aims to protect private environmental conservation areas (PPAs) in Brazil (and globally) using the best of blockchain technology, announces that it is opening the code of its smart contracts from the pilot phase to the public.
Natus System smart contracts describe the rules and behaviors of Natus Units (NTSU). Each NTSU represents the environmental benefits generated in 1 m2 of a conserved and preserved area in one year by one or more PPAs. This environmental benefits basket can include water sources, carbon in stock, streams, conserved rivers, biodiversity, and preserved forests, among others. The profit from the sale of NTSU during the pilot phase of the Natus System is destined for PPAs and system supporters.
So that all this could be calculated, a methodology was developed that can be consulted here.
Starting from an open philosophy, where we can take this technology even “farther”, the System’s supporters and co-creators (Satisfied Vagabonds LLC, Cambiatus, and Jataí Capital e Conservação) decided to open the code of Natus’ smart contracts. It means that today these codes have an open license for a free consultation, modification, and copying so that anyone can consult and understand all the logic behind the creation of Natus Units.
The openness of the codes also allows anyone to copy and replicate it elsewhere and use it as a basis for studying, developing other software, and other infinity of options, allowing the development of knowledge on top of this Natus Units creation methodology. In addition, the contracts include functions that the project has not yet implemented and that can serve as inspiration for other initiatives, such as the “plant” function.
It also means that we are open to collaboration, accepting contributions from outside our “circle” who want to review our process to make it even better.
We hope to encourage other people and businesses to experience open practices in their environments and realities, identifying, contextualizing, translating, adapting, and disseminating the methodologies and tools that we are developing far beyond our reach and imagination.
The pilot phase of the Natus System has already been completed, with its results published, which means that no new Natus Units will be created. The following steps in the System include creating Natus NFTs and experimenting with Play to Earn.
