Networking is not magic. But, the world in which you find yourself when they shout “Alright guys!! Networking time!”, well it seems at least to be magical.
They want you, to make new friends. Like the kindergarten. You remember it?
You are placed in a room with some food to eat together with other people, and everyone is told to meet the others!

“Go Johnny, go meet Timmy. Good booooy”

And the same people that didn’t even look at you when joining the event seem now so friendly. They want to know everything about you: your name, your city, your dog’s race, the credit card number… Wow that’s freaking amazing. But mostly, it is really happening. Probably the question that you should ask yourself is: “Do this guy really care?” and the answer will be an absolute NO, 99% of the times. Indeed, as soon as he finds that what you do is in no way related to what he’s looking for, you’ll se him vanish.
So… if you want to make real networking, avoid “networking events” :)

Welcome to the Kindergarten
