Uma knew Claudia would have a lot to say when she saw the new painting of her in the cafe. It made Uma flush when she looked at it.
At herself.
Uma remembered posing — naked — for Tom that evening. But this time was different from the time before. She was holding a book, a simple black book and of course Tom added all of the stars all over the canvas. The room was thick with something that Uma could not name, except to say that even her regular heartbeat was so loud inside of her and her every breath sounded like a light scratch. The same with Tom’s sounds inside of her at least.
