Many entrepreneurs spend countless hours trying to get in front of investors and we understand that it’s not an easy task to meet the right ones. Similarly, we recognise that the founders and companies a VC fund is likely to see will always be biased in one way or another, such as:

  • Who you know and who knows you
  • The fund’s image and investment focus and how it aligns with a founder’s vision
  • Any biases that exist amongst the investors that supply earlier stages capital to your fund

At Nauta Capital we constantly try to meet the best and most inspiring founders irrespective of where they came from, who they know or how they were introduced to us. As well as employing data-driven approach to finding companies to invest in and reduce human bias, we also try to be proactive in making it easier for founders to meet us. We host regular open office hours around different topics, the most recent one for underrepresented founders of B2B companies, here are a couple of highlights:

  • We met 11 companies in a single afternoon, every session was 30min long and each company had half an hour to come in and use however they please.
  • We were extremely impressed by the experience of the founders we met, ranging from experienced management consultants to serial entrepreneurs.
  • Scale and ambition of the founders we met was extremely impressive, for example companies working on: bridging the chasm between the innovative academic research and the use of modern technologies in industry; revolutionising the cloud computing space by optimising the use of processing power; helping sports teams improve out-of-stadium fan engagement.

Since starting our office hours we have always stressed that the sessions are meeting great founders, having open discussions and offering advice. We find that that really resonates with the people we meet, with a 9.2/10 recommendation score so far (entrepreneurs are our customers after all). So if that sounds like it might be useful, please keep an eye out for our next office hours on 23rd January — the focus of the session will be announced soon through our LinkedIn page!

Special thanks to Wayra and Backstage Capital for helping to spread the word!
