Helpless reactives

Bumbling along, trying to keep our heads above water. To lay the train tracks when the train is already in motion. Running full speed without the end destination known.

A lot of teams work this way. The nature of their work is as helpless reactives. No room for long term planning, process retrospection or organization wide effort.

Jumping in with both feet on the next priority without considering the ramifications. Without time to consider cleaning up the mess the last priority left in its wake.

Besides technical debt, ux debt, and financial debt, the team itself is depleted. Moral and energy. No time to catch breath and reflect. No time to allow that someone else might have an idea worth exploring.

This is the result of an output vs outcome mentality. That, above all else, measuring success by what they build instead of the outcome of what they build.
