Overcoming good ideas

Don’t fall in love with version one. Not to the extent that you can’t move on.

Be willing to undo past ideas that might have been good enough so that you can get to a better idea. A great idea.

Especially when we’re talking about your product. Many of its features, if we’re being honest, aren’t used or valued.

Accept that they served a purpose and take the next step. Learn from those ideas and iterate on them into what your customers will actually want.

You might run into resistance. Those who championed its creation may still be around. Recognize this is their baby.

But, we do not work to make our coworkers or even our bosses happy. We do the hard work upfront so we can show them how to push their ideas to greatness.

Or we remove to make space for other great ideas. Not everything should last forever. You can let them rot in the corner, and weigh you down, or you can let them go.
