[2024] July Updates
Welcome to the new world, Navigators.
The first month under our new identity has been a success: new name, new socials, same community and mission.
Development Update
We have now entered the testing phase, ensuring the best possible transition to main. This month, our focus was on pushing patches and fixing bugs related to the new blockchain syncing and staking process.
As previously announced, we are still looking for users willing to run a test node. The process is very simple and only requires installing Navio and getting testnet coins from the Discord faucet. Your feedback will be greatly valued.
Moreover, we are starting to put together a FAQ thread with all possible inquiries the community might have around the mainnet transition. We encourage you to include your own as they will be compiled into guidance articles surrounding covering each topic.
Upcoming Events
Privacy crypto conferences have been gaining traction in recent times, and this year CR1337 will be representing Navio and Private Finance Syndicate at the Ethereum Cypherpunk Congress in Bangkok on November 11.
The congress is “the largest freedom & privacy activism gathering facilitated by the Web3Privacy now collective” and aims to be the place where “decentralization, freedom, privacy, and politics are not empty words, but part of activism toward a more just world.”
CR1337's mission will be to identify and develop potential partnerships and collaborations with like-minded projects and enhance our network within the PriFi sector. We will gather all the conference content in the Discord.
Community Collaboration
Navio and the Komodo team have joined forces again and will run a series of cross-community activities which will focus on the benefits of privacy, decentralization, and open source.
July News
Tornado Cash saw a 45% increase in deposits in the first half of year, surpassing $1.8 billion. It is quite clear that despite the (unjust) charges of money laundering towards the Tornado Cash developer, Alex Pertsev, the demand for private transactions remains untethered. This underscores the fundamental truth that you cannot kill an idea once a strong community is behind it.
However, Pertsev has been denied bail by the Dutch court as he prepares to appeal his money laundering conviction, which resulted in a 64-month prison sentence. Rightfully, his lawyer deemed his pre-trial detention as “unacceptable”. Who forgot to tell the judges that simply writing code is not considered a crime? For those looking to support Tornado Cash against this injustice, Roman Storm has put out a call for donations.
Until the next one. Cheers!
