Reading the news on the internet or a mobile device is now normal for us. Back in the day…paper newspapers were the way of reading up on current events, but now, these newspapers are digital.​

But instead of our coffee table or in the shelf in the bathroom, since it’s all digital, where is all that text information stored now?

From building sites to managing information accumulated daily, considerable techniques and workforce are required. For small/medium press media, it’s particularly burdensome to manage such a complicated IT system.​

So thus was born the first rental internet newspaper IT solution in Korea!

Q1. Please tell us about your company and the services you provide.

NDSOFT was founded in 2000, and is the top internet newspaper solution company in the industry, providing services to around 2,700 domestic and foreign press media outlets.

Unlike large press media, it’s financially and technically difficult for small/medium press media to operate an internet newspaper system by forming their own IT departments. NDSOFT provides overall IT services required to operate internet newspapers, such as servers and security, news solution (CMS), and maintenance staff, to these press media in a monthly subscription format.​

It’s easier to understand if you think of us as outsourcing small/medium press media’s IT departments and tasks.​

Q2. Why did you choose NAVER Cloud Platform?

We thought it was necessary to move the 350 on-premise servers we were running to the cloud environment, so we started to consider the transfer a few years ago.

In the early stage, we had some difficulties reviewing other international clouds and receiving inquiries and technical support on issues we had. We then were recommended to try NAVER Cloud Platform. It is equally as competitive as foreign cloud companies in terms of products and services, and we could get the technical support and solutions to the problems that we were agonizing over.​

Q3. Which service in NAVER Cloud Platform are you currently using and how did it help you?

We’re using Server, Security Monitoring, Cloud DB for MySQL, and Load Balancer.

​Due to the nature of press media, it was difficult to flexibly respond to the frequent traffic explosions with the existing on-premise method. However, in NAVER Cloud Platform, we can use Auto Scaling to respond easily and quickly, allowing us to handle things more easily.

Q4. What are the distinctive features or advantages of NAVER Cloud Platform?

We think NAVER Cloud Platform’s advantages are the operational knowledge of NAVER, the leading portal in Korea, stable and reliable services, smooth communication, and quick technical support. Plus, they have stable infrastructure and robust security.

Q5. Can you tell us about your cloud architecture configuration?

In short, we configured it using the architecture below. We’re operating lots of servers stably.

Q6. What kind of services do you want to provide by using the NAVER Cloud Platform in the future?

Our next goal is to introduce blockchain technology and expand into the global market. We’re now preparing to expand into the global market based on our knowledge in operating Internet newspaper solutions, which we’ve accumulated for over 20 years. We’d like to go through this process with NAVER Cloud Platform.
